History of Dumontville
Dumontville has a short but interesting history. A post office was opened here in 1837. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages back then. The post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1903.
The community got its name from one of its very first settlers, a man named James Dumont. Naming places after important people or families was a common practice when new areas were being settled.
