Dundas baronets facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

A baronetcy is a special title in the United Kingdom. It's like being a knight, but it can be passed down through a family from father to son. It's a bit like a noble title, but it's not a peerage (which means you don't get to sit in the House of Lords).

Over time, four different baronet titles have been created for people with the last name Dundas. One of these was made in the Baronetage of Great Britain and the other three in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. As of 2008, only one of these titles still exists.

What is a Baronetcy?

A baronetcy is a hereditary title, meaning it can be inherited. It's ranked below a baron (a type of noble) but above a knight. The title is usually "Sir" for the baronet and "Lady" for his wife. When a baronet dies, his eldest son usually inherits the title. If there are no sons, the title might become extinct, meaning it no longer exists.
