Dupont is a community in eastern Tennessee. It is found within Sevier County, Tennessee. This area is known for its beautiful mountains and friendly neighborhoods.
Where Did the Name Come From?
The name "Dupont" has an interesting story. It is believed to have come from the words "dew point". A long time ago, there was a special resort on Bluff Mountain. This mountain is part of Chilhowee Mountain. The resort was open from 1901 to 1916.
It was first called "Dew Point" because dew (tiny drops of water that form on surfaces overnight) rarely appeared there. Over time, people started saying "Dupont" instead, and the name stuck.

Early Families
Some of the first families to settle in Dupont had last names like Gibson, Graves, Latham, Reagan, Rogers, and Thomas. These families played a big part in shaping the area. A well-known person from Dupont was Ray L. Reagan. He was a local leader for many years, serving as a county judge in Sevier County. He lived in Dupont his whole life.
Community Hubs: Church and School
The Dupont Baptist Church started in 1907. It first met in an old building called the Pickens School House. This church is still active today.
The Pickens School House later became known as Dupont School. It taught students from first to eighth grade until 1970. After the school closed, the building was updated and renamed the Dupont Community Center. This center is now a place where people can gather. Right next to the community center is Firehall Number Three. This is where the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department keeps some of its equipment.
