Durgen, Missouri facts for kids
Durgen is a small place in Lewis County, Missouri, in the United States. It is called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and people, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
History of Durgen
The area known as Durgen was officially planned out in 1860. This process, called "platting," is like drawing a map for a new town. It shows where streets and lots would go. The community got its name from a nearby stream, which was called Durgens Creek.
A post office was very important for communities long ago. A post office named Durgen's Creek opened in 1855. This was where people could send and receive letters and packages. The name of the post office was changed to just Durgen in 1895. However, the post office eventually closed its doors in 1905.
