Charles Edward "Dusty" Decker (born October 19, 1911 – died October 11, 1962) was an American baseball player. He played as a shortstop in the Negro leagues. Dusty played for teams like the Indianapolis ABCs and the Montgomery Grey Sox in 1932. He also played for the Detroit Stars in 1937.
Dusty Decker's Early Life
Charles Edward Decker was born on October 19, 1911. His hometown was Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He was the older of two sons. His parents were Edward Decker and Inez Caldwell. About a month after he was born, his family moved. They made their new home in Evansville, Indiana.
School and Sports
Dusty Decker went to Frederick Douglass High School. After high school, he briefly attended Fisk University in 1928. For the next two years, he studied physical education. He went to Lincoln University.
While at Lincoln University, he was a talented football player. He played quarterback for the Blue Tigers team. He earned "All-Midwestern" honors, which means he was one of the best players in the region. He even got a cool nickname: "The Human Catapult."
