Dyersdale, Texas facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Dyersdale is a small community in Harris County, Texas, in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community because it's not officially part of any city. This means it doesn't have its own city government, like a mayor or city council. Instead, it's managed by the county government.

A Look Back: Dyersdale's History

Dyersdale got its name from Clement C. Dyer. He was one of the "Old Three Hundred," which was a group of early settlers who came to Texas with Stephen F. Austin to start a new life.

In 1913, Dyersdale got its own post office. By 1914, about 250 people lived there, and the community even had a company that worked with lumber. However, the post office closed just a few years later in 1917.

Later, in the mid-1930s, an oilfield was discovered nearby, which helped the area grow. By 1936, Dyersdale had homes spread out and a school. The oilfield was still producing oil in 1946. By the 1980s, Dyersdale had an old, unused train station, a church, and a trailer park.
