Dzyarzhynskaya Hara is the highest point in Belarus, a country located in Eastern Europe. This hill stands 345 meters (about 1,130 feet) above sea level. It is an important landmark because it is the highest natural spot in the entire country.
Where is Dzyarzhynskaya Hara?
Dzyarzhynskaya Hara is located to the west of Minsk, which is the capital city of Belarus. It is also close to the town of Dzyarzhynsk. The hill itself is found in a small village called Skirmuntava.
What's in a Name?
The original name for this hill was Svyataya Hara. This name means "Holy Mountain" in English.
However, in 1958, the hill was given a new name: Hara Dzyarzhynskaya. It was renamed after Felix Dzerzhinsky. He was a well-known historical figure who founded an important state security organization.
