E.L. Fudge cookies are a popular American snack food. They first came out in 1986. These yummy cookies are made by the Keebler Company, which is part of a bigger company called Ferrero SpA.

E.L. Fudge cookies are a type of shortbread cookie. This means they are made with a lot of butter, which gives them a rich, crumbly texture. They are sandwich cookies, with a sweet, chocolatey fudge filling in the middle. The cookies themselves are shaped like different Keebler elves, and each one even has a tiny name tag!

What Does E.L. Fudge Stand For?

When these cookies were first created, the "E.L." in E.L. Fudge actually stood for "Everybody Loves." It was a fun way to say that the cookies were so good, everyone would enjoy them!

However, the name also cleverly connects to the famous Keebler Elf. The Keebler Elves are tiny, magical bakers who supposedly make all the delicious cookies in a hollow tree. So, "E.L." can also be seen as standing for "Elf Love" or simply "Keebler Elf."

Different Kinds of E.L. Fudge Cookies

Over the years, Keebler has made several different versions of E.L. Fudge cookies.

  • Original: This is the classic E.L. Fudge cookie with its buttery shortbread and fudge filling.
  • Double Stuffed: Introduced in May 2002, this version has twice as much creamy fudge filling. It's perfect for those who love extra chocolate!
  • Other Fillings: Sometimes, you can find E.L. Fudge cookies with different kinds of fillings. These might include more fudge or even peanut butter inside.

You might also find E.L. Fudge cookies in other treats. For example, the Hershey ice cream company sometimes makes a dark chocolate marble fudge ice cream that includes pieces of E.L. Fudge cookies.
