History of the "E" Shed Building
The building that houses the E Shed Markets has an interesting past. It was first built in 1929.
Original Purpose and Location
The "E" Shed was originally a large timber building. It was used as a shed near the wharf. There were many sheds like it in the area. They all had different names and locations over the years.
Moving the Shed
In 1995, the "E" Shed building was moved. It used to be right next to the river. Workers moved it to an empty space behind other sheds. During the move, the building was also turned around. This means it was rotated 180 degrees!
Turning a Shed into a Market
The plan to turn the old shed into a market was designed by Tarek Ibrahim. His company was AND Design. The building work was done by the Fini Group. It cost about $6 million Australian dollars to move the shed and change it into the market you see today.
