Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Eagle Mills is a small, unincorporated community located in Vinton County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. An unincorporated community means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.

History of Eagle Mills

Eagle Mills has a simple but interesting past. A post office was opened there in 1856. This was an important place where people could send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years, finally closing in 1917.

The community got its name from a place called Eagle Mills, which was a mill located on Salt Creek. A mill is a building where grain, like wheat or corn, is ground into flour. Mills were very important long ago because they helped people turn their crops into food.

Eagle Mills also had a school, which was a central part of the community for many years. The school provided education for local children until it closed its doors in 1962.
