Eagles Nest got its name from a large farm, once owned by James L. Alcorn. This farm was called "Eagles Nest" because a real eagle's nest was found nearby.

The community was built along an old railway line. This railway was once known as the Louisville, New Orleans and Texas Railway. A post office served the people of Eagles Nest for many years. It was open from 1887 until 1909.
