The Earl of Traquair (pronounced "Tra-quare") was a special title given to a noble family in Scotland. This title was part of the Peerage of Scotland, which is a list of all the noble titles created in Scotland. It was first given in 1633 to a man named John Stewart.
The main home for the Earls of Traquair was a beautiful place called Traquair House.
Before becoming an Earl, John Stewart was made Lord Stewart of Traquair in 1628. Then, in 1633, when he became an Earl, he also received another title: Lord Linton and Caberston. All these titles were also part of the Peerage of Scotland. The titles ended when the last Earl, Charles Stewart, passed away on August 2, 1861. When a title ends because there are no more family members to inherit it, it is called "extinct."
