Kids Encyclopedia Facts

East Greenville is a small community located in Stark County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or a village. Instead, it is usually governed by the county.

The Story of East Greenville

East Greenville began a long time ago, in the 1820s. Back then, it was just called Greenville. An important part of any growing community was having a post office. Greenville got its own around that time. This helped people send and receive letters and packages.

In 1832, the community's name was officially changed to East Greenville. This might have been to avoid confusion with other places named Greenville. The post office continued to serve the residents for many years. However, in 1914, the post office in East Greenville closed down. Even without its own post office, East Greenville remains a part of Stark County's history and present.
