East Lewistown was first planned and marked out in 1830. This means that people decided where streets and buildings would go, creating the basic layout for the community. Later, in 1850, a post office was opened in East Lewistown, which was an important way for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years before closing in 1902.
