A Look at the East Stroudsburg Armory
The East Stroudsburg Armory was built in 1928. It has a special "T" shape when viewed from above. The building includes a two-story section for offices and a large, one-story hall for drills.
What Does It Look Like?
The armory was designed in the Tudor Revival style. This style looks like old English country homes. The building is made of brick and sits on a strong concrete base. It measures about 56 feet wide and 128 feet long.
More Than Just a Military Building
Over time, the purpose of armories changed. They were no longer just for military training. Many armories started to be used as community centers. They became places for public events and gatherings.
This meant armories were designed differently. They no longer looked like intimidating forts. Instead, they were built in styles like Art Deco. Many of these projects helped create jobs during the Great Depression.
A Historic Landmark
The East Stroudsburg Armory was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. This means it is recognized as an important historical site in the United States.
