The East Third Street Residential Historic District is a special neighborhood in Washburn, Wisconsin. It's a place where many old and important homes are kept safe and preserved. This district includes 31 houses that were built between 1885 and 1950. These homes show off different architectural styles, such as Colonial Revival, Queen Anne, Prairie School, and American Craftsman.
Why This Place Is Special
Many of the houses in this district have interesting stories behind them.
- Some homes were built by a large company called DuPont. They built these houses for their employees who worked at a factory nearby in Barksdale, Wisconsin.
- Another building in the district was originally built by the United States Forest Service. This house was used by the local forest ranger who worked for the Chequamegon–Nicolet National Forest.
Becoming a Historic Place
This special district was first added to the State Register of Historic Places in 2013. This means the state of Wisconsin recognized its importance. The very next year, in 2014, it was also added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a list of places across the entire United States that are considered important to history.
