Eckerö is a small area in Åland, which is a group of islands that belong to Finland. It is a special place because it has its own government, but it is still part of Finland. About 942 people live here.
Eckerö covers an area of 752.67 square kilometres (290.61 sq mi). A big part of this area, 644.94 km2 (249.01 sq mi), is water. This means there are many lakes or coastal waters around. The number of people living in each square kilometer is 8.74 inhabitants per square kilometre (22.6/sq mi).
Most people in Eckerö speak Swedish. In fact, 86.8% of the people living there speak Swedish as their first language. Eckerö is the most western part of both Åland and Finland.

Getting to Eckerö: Ferry Connections
A company called Eckerö Linjen runs a ferry service. This ferry connects Berghamn in Storby, Eckerö, with Grisslehamn in Sweden. Grisslehamn is located on an island called Väddö in Norrtälje. This ferry makes it easy to travel between Åland and Sweden.

In the past, Finnish documents sometimes called this place Ekkerö. However, today, everyone calls it "Eckerö," even in Finnish. This helps keep things simple and clear for everyone.
Historic Buildings: The Post and Customs House
Eckerö is famous for its Post and Customs House. This building is very large. It was built to help with mail services between Stockholm, Sweden, and St. Petersburg, Russia.
The building was constructed in 1828. This was during a time when Russia had control over the area. A famous architect named C.L. Engel designed the building. It stands as an important reminder of the past postal routes.
