Economy, Missouri facts for kids
Economy is a small, quiet place located in Macon County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government, like a mayor or city council. Instead, it's usually managed by the county government.
The Story of Economy
The area we now call Economy first saw settlers arrive in the 1830s. Back then, it had a different name: Vienna.
How Economy Got Its Name
A post office was opened in Vienna in 1854. Just two years later, in 1856, the name of the community and its post office changed to Economy. This new name came from a local store. People could find really good, "economical" deals there! The post office served the community for many years before it finally closed its doors in 1906.
