Edwin A. Gomes (born February 25, 1936 – died December 22, 2020) was an American politician. He was a member of the Connecticut State Senate. He represented District 23, which includes the city of Bridgeport. He was elected to the Senate in 2015 and served until 2019. Before that, he also served in the Senate from 2005 to 2013.

Early Life and Work
Ed Gomes served in the United States Army. He was in the Army from 1958 to 1963. After his military service, he worked for Carpenter Steel. He was a laborer there from 1963 to 1977. Later, he became a representative for the United Steelworkers of America. This union helps workers.
His Time in Politics
Ed Gomes started his political career in Bridgeport. He served on the Bridgeport City Council. He was a council member from 1983 to 1989. He returned to the council from 1999 to 2005.
He was first elected to the Connecticut Senate in 2004. He served as a state senator from 2005 to 2013. After a break, he ran for the Senate again in 2015. He won the special election. This time, he ran with the Working Families Party. He became the first person from this party outside New York to win such an election. He served until 2019.
As a senator, Ed Gomes was part of the Judiciary Committee. In 2018, he voted against reconfirming a judge. This showed his independent spirit.
Later Years
Ed Gomes passed away on December 22, 2020. He was 84 years old. He died in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
