Eddy Silitonga won many singing competitions. He was the Champion Pop Singer in Medan. He also won the Popular Song Festival held at Taman Ismail Marzuki in Jakarta. In 1983, he won the first Minang Song Contest.
He studied at the Mapua Institute of Technology in the Philippines. Eddy Silitonga also formed his own music group. It was called "Eddy's Group." This group was very popular between 1976 and 1979.
