About Edgar Alfred Holloway
Edgar Alfred Holloway was born in Doncaster, a town in Yorkshire, England. He became a war artist, which means he drew pictures during a war. He worked during the Boer War in South Africa.
He was very good at drawing military uniforms. He created many pictures for a company called Gale and Polden. These pictures were used on postcards and in books about British army uniforms.
Edgar Holloway also drew for popular magazines like the Boy's Own Paper and Young England magazine. He illustrated many children's books, especially adventure stories for boys.
In 1911, he lived in Hanwell, Middlesex, with his wife Mildred Kate Holloway. They had a son, Francis Gilbert Holloway, and a daughter, Leila Mildred Holloway. His job was listed as a painter and artist.
In 1930, Holloway moved to Australia. He continued to illustrate books there for the Cornstalk Publishing Company in Sydney. He passed away in 1941 in Burwood, a suburb of Sydney.
