Edgar Arceneaux (born in 1972) is a modern artist from Los Angeles, California. He is known for his amazing drawings. He also helped start the Watts House Project. This is a non-profit group that helps improve the Watts neighborhood.
About Edgar Arceneaux's Art Journey
Edgar Arceneaux studied art at several great schools. He earned his first art degree (BFA) in 1996. Later, he got his master's degree (MFA) in 2001 from the California Institute of the Arts. He also studied in Germany and at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
From 1999 to 2012, Edgar was in charge of the Watts House Project. He officially restarted the group in 2007. He worked with people from Watts, artists, and community leaders. The project helps fix up homes near the famous Watts Towers. It also creates fun programs for the community. They started their first home makeovers in 2008. The group became an official non-profit in 2009.
In 2003, the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles showed Edgar's art. His exhibit was called Drawings of Removal. It used layered drawings and sculptures. This art explored how we remember things.
Edgar was chosen as a United States Artists Fellow in 2007. His work was also featured in the 2008 Whitney Biennial. This is a big art show that happens every two years.
In 2015, Edgar created a performance art piece. It was called Until, Until, Until.... This piece recreated and commented on a famous performance from 1981. That performance was by Ben Vereen at Ronald Reagan's inauguration. Edgar has shown this piece in many places.
Today, Edgar Arceneaux is also an art professor. He teaches at the Roski School of Art and Design at USC. He lives and works in Pasadena, California.
