Edmond Dwayne Jordan (born June 1971) is an American lawyer and politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He serves in the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 29. He won a special election in May 2016 to take this role. He followed another Democrat, Ronnie Edwards.
About Edmond Jordan
Edmond Jordan grew up in Brusly, Louisiana. He went to Brusly High School. Later, he studied at Southern University and the Southern University Law Center. Both are in Baton Rouge. He became a lawyer in 1998.
As a lawyer, he has worked for different government groups. These include the Louisiana Public Service Commission. He also worked for the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. He even worked for the United States Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Jordan also helps run Cypress Insurance Agency in Baton Rouge. He has completed special leadership programs. These programs help people become better leaders in their communities.
Edmond Jordan is married to Stacie. They have two children, Jailen and Jace.
His Political Journey
Edmond Jordan first ran for the House in November 2015. He lost that election to Ronnie Edwards. Mr. Edwards won with more votes. After that, Ronnie Edwards left his position. This led to a special election to choose a new representative.
In April 2016, five Democrats ran in this special election. Edmond Jordan was one of the top two vote-getters. This meant he went to a second round of voting. In this final vote, Jordan won. He defeated another Democrat, Vereta Tanner Lee. He received 59.6 percent of the votes.
During his 2015 campaign, Jordan talked about important goals. He wanted to make sure the state budget helped create opportunities. He believed in strong economic growth. He also wanted to keep skilled graduates in Louisiana. He specifically aimed to improve the economy in District 29. He wanted to bring new businesses to the area.
After his election, Governor John Bel Edwards called to congratulate him. Governor Edwards is also a Democrat.
Working for Families
Edmond Jordan has also worked as a lawyer for families in important cases. He served as an attorney and spokesperson for the family of Alton Sterling. This was after a difficult incident involving police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
