His Early Life
Edmund Sutton was born in a town called Dudley in England. He was the oldest son of John Sutton, 1st Baron Dudley, who was a very important noble and a Knight of the Garter. His mother was Elizabeth Berkeley.
A Knight in Wartime
Sir Edmund Sutton was a brave knight who fought alongside his father. They were involved in a big conflict known as the Wars of the Roses. This was a series of battles fought between two powerful families, the House of Lancaster and the House of York, who were both trying to control the English throne. Edmund was present at several key battles, including St Albans, Blore Heath, and Towton.

Edmund Sutton married twice and had children.
First Marriage
His first wife was Joyce Tiptoft. She came from important families, including the Cherleton and Tiptoft families. Through her, the Sutton family gained connections to other noble lines, including a descendant of King Edward I of England.
Edmund and Joyce had one son:
- Edward Sutton (born in 1459). He later became the 2nd Baron Dudley after his grandfather passed away. Edward married Cecily Willoughby.
Second Marriage
Around 1465, Edmund married his second wife, Matilda. She was the daughter of Thomas Lord Clifford.
Edmund and Matilda had two sons:
- Thomas Dudley of Yanwath. He married Sarah Thirkeld and they had children.
- Richard Dudley (1518-1593), who married Dorothy Sandford.
- John Dudley (died in 1580), who married Elizabeth Gardiner.
Sir Edmund Sutton was still alive in 1483, but he passed away before his father, who died in 1487.
Later Family Members
One of Sir Edmund Sutton's later family members was Richard More, who was a passenger on the famous ship, the Mayflower.
