Edna Zyl Modie was born on April 14, 1886. Her parents were Charles C. and Lillian Janette Modie. Her family moved often when she was young. They left Walnut Creek in 1887. They lived in different parts of Southern California. Around 1891, they settled in Los Angeles.
Her Education and Early Career
Edna Modie finished high school in 1904. She graduated from Los Angeles High School. After that, she studied art. She went to the Los Angeles School of Art and Design. She graduated from there in 1907.
Modie also became a teacher. She taught at the California School of Artistic Whistling. This school was in Los Angeles, California. Before teaching there, she had studied under Agnes Woodward. Agnes Woodward was the person who started the school.
