Edom is a small place in Rockingham County, Virginia, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
Edom is located along State Route 42. You can find it north of Harrisonburg. A stream called Linville Creek flows through this quiet area.
A Special Doctor in Edom
Edom is known for a very important historical event. On January 14, 1794, a doctor named Jesse Bennett did something amazing. He performed a special surgery on his wife. This surgery helped their daughter be born safely.
This was the very first time such a surgery was done in the United States. It was a huge step forward in medicine. In 1983, the state of Virginia put up a special sign. This sign, called a historical marker, remembers Dr. Bennett's important work.
