Edward Byrom (born 13 June 1724 – died 24 April 1773) was an important person in Manchester, England, during the 1700s. He even served as the town's borough-reeve, which was like being a mayor or chief official for a time.

Edward Byrom's Life and Family

Edward Byrom was the only son of John Byrom, who came from a very rich and well-known family. His older sister, Elizabeth Byrom, wrote about how excited she and her family were about Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745. This was during a time when some people wanted to bring back the old royal family to the throne.

Important Contributions to Manchester

Edward Byrom helped start the very first bank in Manchester. This was a big deal for the city's growth! He also arranged for St John's Church to be built in 1769. This church was located on Byrom Street, a street named after his family. The church was later taken down in 1931.

His Family Life

Edward Byrom married Eleanora Halstead. They had four daughters together before Eleanora passed away in 1758. Their daughters were Ann Byrom (1751-1826), Elizabeth Byrom (1754-1754), Felicia Byrom (1755-1757), and Eleanora Byrom (1756-1838). His granddaughter, Eleanora Atherton, became a famous helper of charities in England.
