Early Life and School

Edward Perry was born in Wolverhampton on November 15, 1800. His parents were Richard and Sarah Perry. When he was a boy, he went to Wolverhampton Grammar School.

Making Things from Tin

After school, Edward Perry started working with metal. He learned how to make things shiny and decorative, a process called japanning. Soon, he decided to start his very own company.

His business grew quickly! It became too big for its first location, so he moved it to a larger place. Edward Perry's company, which made items from tinplate, became very successful. It grew even bigger than the similar business owned by his father and brother. After Edward Perry passed away, his company joined the family business. Later, it became part of the famous Sunbeam works, started by John Marston.

Being Mayor of Wolverhampton

Edward Perry was chosen to be the Mayor of Wolverhampton two times! He served from 1855 to 1856 and again from 1856 to 1857.

During his time as Mayor, there was a big problem. The city council and the Wolverhampton Waterworks Company had a disagreement. This left the council with a lot of money missing. Edward Perry helped solve this by organizing a way for people to voluntarily pay money to help the city.

He also played a main role in starting the Wolverhampton Chamber of Commerce. This is a group that helps local businesses work together and grow.

Later Years

Edward Perry lived with his wife, Sophia. They lived in a house called Stonley House in Wolverhampton. Later, they moved to Danes Court in Tettenhall, Staffordshire. Edward Perry died on March 2, 1869.
