Sir Edward Spencer (born in 1594 – died in 1656) was an important English landowner, lawyer, and politician. He was also a knight and a nobleman. Sir Edward served in the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government, at different times between 1621 and 1648.

Who Was Sir Edward Spencer?
Edward Spencer was born into a noble family. His father was Robert Spencer, 1st Baron Spencer of Wormleighton. His mother was Margaret Willoughby. Edward was baptised on March 2, 1594.
He went to Corpus Christi College, Oxford when he was 14 years old. He earned his first degree in 1612. Later, in 1618, he became a lawyer at Lincoln's Inn, a famous place for training lawyers.

Becoming a Member of Parliament
In 1621, Edward Spencer was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called Brackley. An MP is someone elected to represent people in the House of Commons. He was elected again for Brackley in 1624 and 1625.
Knighted and More Elections
Edward Spencer lived at Boston Manor. He was made a knight on December 27, 1625, at Hampton Court. This meant he could use "Sir" before his name.
In 1626, he was elected as an MP again, this time for Middlesex. He was re-elected for Middlesex in 1648. This was during a time called the Long Parliament. However, he was later removed from Parliament in December 1648 during an event known as Pride's Purge.
Later Life and Family
Sir Edward Spencer passed away at the age of 61. He was buried in a place called Great Brington in Northamptonshire.
His Marriage
Sir Edward Spencer married Lady Margaret Reade. She was the widow of Sir William Reade. Lady Margaret was famous for building the beautiful Jacobean-style Boston Manor House in 1622. Sir Edward and Lady Margaret did not have any children together.
