Edwards is a small community in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. It is known as a hamlet and a CDP. In 2010, about 439 people lived there. Edwards used to be an official village until the end of 2012.
This community is located in the northeast part of the Town of Edwards. Both the former village and the surrounding town are close to the southern border of the county.
History of Edwards
Edwards started as a settlement on an island in a river. Later, it grew onto the nearby land. This happened to be near a military road called the "Russell Turnpike."
The very first building was a grist mill, built in 1814. A grist mill grinds grain into flour. Because of this mill, the area was first called "Sheads Mill."
In 1894, a big fire caused a lot of damage. Much of the village was destroyed.
On March 15, 2011, the people living in the village voted on its future. They decided to officially dissolve the village. This meant it would become part of the larger Town of Edwards. The vote was 55 in favor and only 9 against. The village officially dissolved on December 31, 2012. From January 1, 2013, the Town of Edwards took over all responsibilities for the area.

Edwards is located at 44°19′25″N 75°15′10″W / 44.32361°N 75.25278°W.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the area covers about 1.0 square mile (2.6 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 1.0 square mile (2.5 square kilometers). A very small part, about 1.01%, is water.
The community is found where County Roads 19 and 24 meet. It is also north of New York State Route 58.
The Oswegatchie River flows towards the west, right past the community.

In the year 2000, there were 465 people living in Edwards. These people lived in 177 households. A household is a group of people living together. Out of these, 118 were families.

Most of the people in Edwards were White (about 96.77%). A small number were African American (0.43%), Native American (0.65%), or from other backgrounds. About 1.29% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
