Sir Edwin Sandys (born around 1564 – died 15 March 1608) was an English politician. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the town of Andover from 1586 to 1587.
Edwin Sandys was the oldest son of Miles Sandys, who was also a Member of Parliament. His uncle was Edwin Sandys, a very important church leader who became the Archbishop of York. Edwin's mother was Hester Clifton.
Early Life and Education
It is thought that Edwin Sandys and his brothers went to Eton College, a famous school, around 1574-1575. Later, in 1579, he began studying law at the Middle Temple in London. This was a place where people learned to become lawyers.
Family Life
On 2 June 1586, Edwin Sandys married Elizabeth Sandys. She was the daughter of William, the 3rd Baron Sandys. Even though they had the same last name, their families came from different parts of England. Edwin and Elizabeth had three sons. Their youngest son, Henry Sandys, later became the 5th Baron Sandys.
Political Career
In 1586, Edwin Sandys was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for Andover. An MP is a person elected to represent their town or area in the country's government, helping to make laws. He served in Parliament for one term. In the next Parliament in 1589, his brother-in-law, Thomas Temple, took his place.
Other Important Roles
Edwin Sandys was given the title of Sir in Ireland in 1599. This means he was knighted, a special honor given by the King or Queen. From February to November 1606, he also served as the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire. A High Sheriff was a very important official in a county, responsible for keeping law and order.
