Egbert, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Egbert is a small, unincorporated community located in Montgomery County, Missouri, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes or buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.

What is Egbert?

Egbert is a quiet place in Montgomery County, Missouri. It's not a big city or even a small town with a mayor and town council. Instead, it's a collection of homes and possibly a few businesses that are part of the larger county area. People who live here rely on the county government for services like roads and law enforcement.

A Glimpse into Egbert's Past

Egbert has a short but interesting history. The community was named after an early settler in the area, a person named Egbert Gregory.

The Egbert Post Office

For a short time, Egbert even had its own post office! This post office opened its doors in the year 1900. It served the local residents, helping them send and receive mail. However, it didn't stay open for very long. The Egbert post office closed down just seven years later, in 1907. This often happened in smaller communities as transportation improved and mail services became more centralized.
