Eileen Hickman-Smith was born in 1909 in Islington, a part of north London, England. Her family was very artistic! Her mother, Annie, was a musician, and her father, Arthur Ernest Hickman-Smith (1876–1956), was a painter and author.
Her Education and Art
Eileen went to Highbury Hill High School. After that, she studied art at the Regent Street Polytechnic in central London. This is where she really shined as a sculptor. She even won a special medal for her sculpture work!
As a sculptor, Eileen made many different pieces. She created figures and reliefs. These artworks were made from strong materials like stone and bronze. Besides sculpting, she also painted using oil paints.
