El Aguilar is a town and municipality located in the Jujuy Province of Argentina. It's known as a "company mining town." This means it was built mainly to support the people who work in the nearby mines.
El Aguilar is one of the highest towns in Argentina. It sits at about 3,980 meters (or 13,058 feet) above sea level. Only Mina Pirquitas, at 4,160 meters, is higher. In 2001, about 3,655 people lived in El Aguilar.
Climate in El Aguilar
El Aguilar has what is called an alpine climate. This type of climate is found in high mountain areas. It has two main seasons that are very different from each other.
Wet Season
From December to March, El Aguilar experiences a relatively mild wet season. During these months, the town gets most of its rain. The temperatures are not too cold, making it a bit more comfortable.
Dry Season
The dry season lasts from April to November. This period is very dry, meaning there is hardly any rain. Mornings during the dry season can be extremely cold, often freezing.
