El Arbolillo is an ancient village site in Mexico. It's an important archaeological site located in the area of Tlalnepantla de Baz, in the State of Mexico. This place holds the remains of an old farming village. It grew during a time called the Preclassical Mesoamerican period. This period was a long time ago, before the famous Maya or Aztec empires.

The village of El Arbolillo was built on the western shores of what was once Lake Texcoco. Scientists believe people first lived here around 900 BCE. That's over 2,900 years ago!

What Was El Arbolillo Like?

El Arbolillo was a small farming village. The people who lived there grew their own food. They likely used simple tools and lived in homes made from natural materials. Archaeologists study the remains of these villages to learn about daily life long ago.

Ancient Trade and Connections

The things found at El Arbolillo show that its people were not alone. They traded with other villages nearby. For example, they had strong connections with places like Zacatenco and Copilco. Trading was very important back then. It helped different communities share goods, ideas, and even new ways of doing things. This shows how early societies were already connected.

Who Studied El Arbolillo?

Many archaeologists have worked at El Arbolillo. They carefully dig up and study the remains of the past. Two important researchers who examined this site were Christine Niederberger and George Clapp Vaillant. Their work helps us understand what life was like in ancient Mesoamerica.
