El Castillo is a cool town and municipality located in the Meta Department of Colombia. It's a great place to learn about Colombian culture and nature.

A Look Back: History of El Castillo

The first people to settle here made their homes near the Caño Uruimes river. Over time, this small settlement grew. It became a "Police Inspection" area, which is like a local administrative center, within the bigger Municipality of San Martín. Back then, it was called "Inspection of Urimes."

In 1963, its name was changed to La Cal. Then, in 1976, it officially became its own municipality and was given its current name, El Castillo. This happened on February 19, 1976, by a special rule called Ordinance No.001.
