El Grullo is a town and a municipality (which is like a local government area) in the state of Jalisco, located in central-western Mexico. This area covers about 157.2 square kilometers.
As of 2005, the municipality had a total population of 21,825 people. By 2014, the number of residents living in the growing city limits had increased to about 30,000.
What's in a Name?
The name El Grullo comes from a special color called grullo. This color is often used to describe horses and a type of grass. The town was named after an old farm, or Hacienda, that was once located there. This farm was known as "La Hacienda del Zacate Grullo."
Growing Up!
In recent years, the town of El Grullo has been growing and changing a lot. New housing areas, similar to suburban neighborhoods, have been built on the edges of the town.
The town center has also seen some exciting additions. These include a tall monument called an obelisk and a larger building for the city government, known as the city hall. Plus, there's now free WiFi available throughout the town center, making it easy for everyone to stay connected!
