El Loco at RCDB |
El Loco is an exciting steel roller coaster found inside the Adventuredome amusement park. This park is part of the Circus Circus Las Vegas resort. The roller coaster is named after the "El Loco" model, which is a type of coaster made by a company called S&S – Sansei Technologies.
El Loco Roller Coaster History
El Loco first opened to riders on February 18, 2014. It was built to replace an older ride called the Rim Runner. The Rim Runner was a log flume ride that had been taken out in 2013.
Interestingly, El Loco still uses some parts of the old Rim Runner ride. This includes the station where you get on and off the coaster. When El Loco was being built, many people thought it would have a "beyond vertical" first drop. This means a drop steeper than 90 degrees. Some even thought it would be 120 degrees! However, the final ride has a 90-degree drop, which is still very steep.
El Loco at Adventuredome is special because it's only the second "El Loco" model coaster to be built indoors. The first indoor one was called Crazy Bird. It's also the second "El Loco" model built in the United States. The first one in the U.S. was Steel Hawg.
What's the Ride Like?
Even though its first drop is not "beyond vertical," the 90-degree drop on El Loco is still a big thrill! This roller coaster also has two inversions. An inversion is when the track turns you upside down. Both of El Loco's inversions are called dive loops.
Another cool feature of El Loco is that it sometimes banks outwards on turns. This means the track tilts away from the center of the turn, adding to the unique ride experience.
Riders sit in small cars, with each car holding four people. There are two rows, and two riders sit in each row. The cars even have speakers that play special music for the ride! This music is a fun mix of energetic hip hop, rock, and Latin beats.
