El Paso is a small village located in the Potaro-Siparuni Region of Guyana. It sits right by the Potaro River, west of the famous Tumatumari Falls and Tumatumari Landing.

This village is home to about 40 families. Most of the people living here are Amerindians, who are the native people of the Americas. There are also people of mixed race. The Amerindian groups in El Paso include members of the Macushi, Akawaio, and Wapishana tribes. These different groups live together and share their lives. El Paso is also connected to a nearby village called Micobie, which is located uphill.

Life in El Paso

El Paso has a primary school, which is important for the children's education. There is also an Anglican church, a place where people can gather for religious services.

Culture and Traditions

Many Amerindian people in El Paso have started to adopt the mainstream culture of Guyana. This means they have moved away from some of their traditional ways of life. They are blending into the wider society.

Electricity in the Village

Years ago, a big power station called the Humatumari Hydropower Station was built near El Paso in 1957. This station used the power of water to create electricity. However, it stopped working in the 1980s. Today, the villagers get their electricity from private generators or by using solar panels, which capture energy from the sun.
