Enrique Castellón Vargas (born April 7, 1928 – died April 22, 2020) was a famous Spanish singer, actor, and dancer. Most people knew him by his stage name, El Príncipe Gitano, which means "The Gypsy Prince." He was well-known for his flamenco music, a traditional Spanish style. His sister, Dolores Vargas, was also a popular rumba singer.
A Star is Born
El Príncipe Gitano started his career very young. When he was just 14 years old, he performed for the first time at the Teatro Calderón in Madrid. He even shared the stage with another famous Spanish artist, Lola Flores. Soon after, he created his own show called "Pinceladas." By the 1950s, he had become a big star in Spanish music.
His Music and Other Passions
Even though he was a successful singer, El Príncipe Gitano had another big dream: he wanted to be a bullfighter. However, he didn't find as much success in bullfighting as he did in music.
His most famous song is "Obí, obá." He also made a unique version of the Elvis Presley song "In the Ghetto." This showed his ability to put his own spin on popular songs.

El Príncipe Gitano continued to perform for many years. He passed away on April 22, 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain. His death was caused by COVID-19.
