The Magazine's Story

The first issue of El Robespierre Español came out in March 1811. It was published "irregularly," which means it didn't come out on a fixed schedule, like every week or month.

The person who started the magazine was Fernández Sardino. He was also the first editor. However, he faced some difficulties during the War of Independence. Because of this, his wife, María del Carmen Silva, took over as the editor. This was a big deal because it was rare for a woman to edit a magazine back then. The magazine was based in a place called Isla de León, which is known as Cadiz today.

What the Magazine Believed In

El Robespierre Español had interesting ideas about how governments should work. It followed an Aristotelian way of thinking. This means it looked at revolution as a "declaration of public opinion through deeds."

The magazine explained that revolutions happened when people showed their feelings through actions. This was often because governments were "despotic." A despotic government is one that rules without caring about what the public thinks. The magazine argued that governments should listen to the public opinion.

The magazine stopped being published in July 1812.
