Ela Peroci (born February 11, 1922 – died November 18, 2001) was a famous Slovene writer. She wrote many stories for children. Her books are now considered classic tales in Slovenia.
Her most famous story is Muca Copatarica. This means "Slipper Keeper Kitty" in English. The book was illustrated by Ančka Gošnik Godec. It has been printed many times and sold over 140,000 copies.

About Ela Peroci
Ela Peroci was born in a place called Sveti Križ pri Rogaški Slatini in 1922. She studied to become a teacher. She started teaching in 1945.
In 1948, she began working as a journalist. She wrote for children's magazines. These included Pionir, Ciciban, and Mladi Svet.
Education and Career
Ela Peroci finished her studies at the University of Ljubljana in 1954. After that, she worked at the national radio station. This station was called Radiotelevizija Slovenija. She worked there until she retired in 1978.
She mostly wrote short stories for kids. But she also published two collections of poems for adults. Ela Peroci passed away in Ljubljana in 2001.
Awards and Recognition
Ela Peroci won the Levstik Award two times. This is a very important award for children's literature in Slovenia.
- In 1955, she won for her book Moj dežnik je lahko balon. This means "My Umbrella Can Turn into a Balloon".
- In 1956, she won for Tisočkratlepa. This title means "Thousandbeauty".
In 1971, she received another big award. It was the Prešeren Foundation Award. She won it for her collection of stories called Na oni strani srebrne črte. This means "Beyond the Silver Line".
