Eleanor is a small, quiet place in Butler County, Iowa. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's usually managed by the county government.

History of Eleanor

Eleanor might be small today, but it has a little bit of history! A long time ago, in 1901, a post office opened there. This was a big deal because it meant people could send and receive mail right in their community. However, the post office didn't stay open for very long, closing just two years later in 1903.

The community got its name from a special person: Mrs. Eleanor McDonald. It's cool how places are sometimes named after people!

If you look at old records, you'll see that Eleanor has always been a very small place. In 1925, only 12 people lived there. By 1940, the population had dropped a little bit to just 10 people. This shows that Eleanor has always been a tiny, close-knit community.
