Elementary Safety (also known as The Elementary Safety Book for Children) is a special magazine published once a year. It's all about keeping kids safe! The magazine is printed in English by a company called Regional Maple Leaf Communications Inc.

This helpful magazine first came out in 1985. It's designed for younger children, usually between six and ten years old. It covers many different safety topics to help them learn how to stay out of harm's way.

What is Elementary Safety Magazine?

Elementary Safety magazine teaches kids important safety lessons. It helps them understand how to be safe at home, at school, and when they are playing outside. The magazine shares tips and information in a way that is easy for young readers to understand.

Since 1999, the RCMP Foundation has supported The Elementary Safety Book for Children. This shows how important and trusted the magazine is for teaching safety.

The Ben Wicks Award

From 1996 to 2000, a famous artist named Ben Wicks drew the pictures for the magazine. His drawings made the safety messages fun and easy to remember. After Ben Wicks passed away, Regional Maple Leaf Communications (RMC) created a special award in his honor.

This award is called "The Ben Wicks Award." Each year, new and talented artists from Canada and the United States enter a contest. They compete for the chance to illustrate the Elementary Safety book. The winner also receives a prize of $10,000! This award helps new artists get recognized and keeps Ben Wicks's artistic spirit alive in the magazine.

Meet the Illustrators

In 2010, RMC chose a past Ben Wicks Award winner, Canadian artist Bob Hahn, to work on the magazine again. Bob Hahn created a unique group of animal characters for the publication. These characters help make the safety lessons even more engaging for young readers.

The magazine also has a website, elementarysafety.com. This website offers even more safety fun, including printable coloring pages. These pages let kids color while learning about important safety rules.
