Elena Braverman's Journey in Math
Elena Braverman grew up in the Soviet Union. She loved learning and went to Perm State University. There, she earned her first two degrees in 1981 and 1983.
Later, she earned her Ph.D. (a very high degree) from Ural State University in 1990. Her main project was about special math equations.
Moving to New Places
In 1992, Elena moved to Israel. She worked as a researcher at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. She taught at the Technion and another college for about ten years.
In 2001, she visited Yale University in the United States. Then, in 2002, she moved to Canada. She started teaching at the University of Calgary. She became a full professor there in 2011.
Books and Family
Dr. Braverman has written a math book with other scientists. It is called Nonoscillation Theory of Functional Differential Equations with Applications. It was published in 2012.
Her Talented Family
Elena comes from a family of smart people! Her father, Yan Petrovich Lumel'skii, was also a mathematician. Her mother, Ludmila Mikhailovna Tsirulnikova, taught physics at a university.
Elena Braverman is also the mother of a famous computer scientist, Mark Braverman.
