The Eleutherodactylus acmonis is a special type of frog that belongs to a family called Eleutherodactylidae. This frog is endemic to Cuba, which means it's only found naturally in Cuba and nowhere else in the world! It was first described in 1960 by a scientist named Albert Schwartz.
About the Acmonis Frog
This small frog lives in warm, wet places. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. This means you can find it in steamy, green forests, both in low-lying areas and up on the sides of mountains.
Why It's in Danger
Sadly, the Eleutherodactylus acmonis frog is currently listed as an endangered species. The biggest threat to these frogs is habitat loss. This happens when the forests where they live are cut down or changed by human activities, like building or farming. When their homes disappear, these unique frogs have fewer places to live and find food, which puts them at risk.
