Eline Powell (born Eline Pauwels, April 12, 1990) is a talented actress from Belgium. She is most famous for playing the main character, Ryn, a mermaid, in the American TV show Siren.

Early Life and Learning

Eline Powell was born in Leuven, Belgium. Her father, Rudi Pauwels, is a scientist who works with medicines. Her mother, Carine Claeys, is also a researcher. They even helped start a company together.

Eline lived in Mechelen until she was 14 years old. After a short time in Switzerland, she moved to England. Even though she lives in England, she is still a Belgian citizen and thinks of Belgium as her home.

She studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. She graduated in 2011 with a degree in acting.

Acting Career

Eline Powell began her acting journey in 2011 with a short student film called For Elsie. In this film, she played Mila, a mobster's daughter who wanted to learn piano very quickly. Her acting in this film won awards at the Beijing Student Film Festival and the Student Academy Awards in the USA.

In 2012, she had a small part as Angelique in the movie Quartet. This film was the first one directed by the famous actor Dustin Hoffman.

In 2014, Eline played the main role in an Italian drama film called Anita B.. The Capri, Hollywood International Film Festival recognized her as a "Breakout Actress" for her performance that year.

Later, in 2016, Eline appeared in two episodes of the very popular TV series Game of Thrones. She played a young actress named Bianca.

She also had smaller roles in two movies released in 2017: Novitiate and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Playing a Mermaid in Siren

In August 2016, Eline Powell was chosen to star in the Freeform TV series Siren. She played Ryn, a wild mermaid who comes to a small town by the sea looking for her sister.

To get ready for this special role, Eline did a lot of research. She studied old stories about mermaids and other sea creatures. She also watched videos of marine animals and predators to learn how a mermaid might move. For Ryn's unique way of speaking, Eline was inspired by the accent of the Icelandic singer Björk. She even worked with a free diver to learn special swimming techniques using a monofin for fast turns underwater.

Many people liked Eline's acting in Siren. Critics said her ability to show Ryn's wonder, fear, and even danger without saying many words was amazing. The Tampa Bay Times called her performance one of the show's best parts. Siren became a very popular new show in 2018 and was renewed for a second season.

Personal Life

In December 2018, Eline Powell announced that she was engaged to British director and animator Lee Lennox. She shared on Instagram in April 2021 that she was expecting a baby. She later gave birth to a baby girl in July 2021.
