Elisa Longo Borghini is a super talented Italian cyclist. She was born on December 10, 1991. She rides her bike professionally for the UAE Team ADQ team.
Elisa is a two-time champion of the Giro d'Italia Women (in 2024 and 2025). She has also won two bronze medals at the Summer Olympic Games. These were in the road race events in Rio de Janeiro (2016) and Tokyo (2020). She also earned two bronze medals at the UCI Road World Championships in 2012 and 2020.
She has won many important one-day races, often called "classics" in women's cycling. These include the Trofeo Alfredo Binda (2013, 2021), Tour of Flanders (2015, 2024), Strade Bianche (2017), and Paris–Roubaix (2022).

Elisa's Cycling Journey
Elisa Longo Borghini started her professional cycling career in 2011. She joined the Top Girls Fassa Bortolo team. In 2012, she competed in the 2012 UCI Road World Championships in Valkenburg. There, she won a bronze medal in the road race.
In 2013, she won her first big race, the Trofeo Alfredo Binda-Comune di Cittiglio. The next year, in 2014, she became a national champion for the first time. She won the time trial event in Italy.
Riding for Wiggle–Honda
In 2015, Elisa joined the Wiggle–Honda team. This was a big step in her career.
That same year, she won her first "cycling monument," the Tour of Flanders. In 2016, she won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She also won the national time trial championship for the second time.
In 2017, she won the Strade Bianche Women race. She also finished second in the Giro Rosa, a major stage race. She became the national time trial and road race champion that year.
Joining Trek–Segafredo
In 2019, Elisa moved to the new Trek–Segafredo team. This team later became known as Lidl–Trek.
In 2020, she had a fantastic year, winning both the road race and time trial at the Italian national championships. She also finished third in the Giro Rosa. At the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Imola, she won another bronze medal in the road race.
In 2021, Elisa won the Trofeo Alfredo Binda for the second time. She also earned bronze medals at Paris–Roubaix Femmes and Liège–Bastogne–Liège Femmes. In July 2021, she won a bronze medal in the women's Olympic road race in Tokyo. She also won both national championships again.
In 2022, she won her second "cycling monument," the tough Paris–Roubaix Femmes race. She also won The Women's Tour by a tiny margin of one second. She continued her success by winning the national time trial championship for the third year in a row.
In 2023, Elisa started the year strong by winning the UAE Tour Women. She was a favorite for the Giro Donne but had to leave the race after a crash. Later, she also had to withdraw from the Tour de France Femmes due to illness.
In July 2024, Elisa made history by becoming the first Italian woman to win the Women's Giro d'Italia since 2008. She skipped the Tour de France Femmes that August to recover from a training crash.
Moving to Team UAE ADQ
In February 2025, Elisa won the UAE Tour for the second time. She also won a stage in that race.
Elisa's Life Outside Cycling
Elisa Longo Borghini comes from a family of athletes. Her mother, Guidina Dal Sasso, was a cross-country skier. Her older brother, Paolo Longo Borghini, was also a professional cyclist.
In 2023, Elisa married fellow cyclist Jacopo Mosca. He rides for the men's Lidl–Trek team. Elisa is known for being a fun and friendly person. She once joked about eating two pizzas after winning the 2013 Trofeo Alfredo Binda. She said she was so hungry and her parents were so happy for her win!
