Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Elisabet Fritz (died 1752), also known as Elisabet Renat, was a very successful Swedish business leader. She managed the Fritz Silk Factory in Stockholm from 1737 to 1749. This factory was one of the first of its kind in Stockholm. Under her leadership, it became one of the biggest and most successful silk factories in Sweden during the mid-1700s.

Who Was Elisabet Fritz?

Elisabet Fritz was married to Isac Fritz. They had three sons together. Her husband started the silk factory in Stockholm in 1731. It officially received its permit in 1734. This factory was one of the very first silk factories in the city.

Taking Over the Business

When her husband passed away in 1737, Elisabet took charge of the factory. She remarried in 1739 to Johan Gustaf Renat. At that time, laws made it difficult for married women to officially own and manage businesses. Even though the law said her husband should be in charge, Elisabet continued to run the factory. Everyone in the business world still saw her as the main manager of the Fritz Factory. They worked directly with her on all business matters.
