Elisha Crymes was an English politician who lived a long time ago, from about 1614 to 1690. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is part of England's government, at different times between 1646 and 1661.

Early Life and Education

Elisha Crymes was the son of William Crymes. His family lived in a place called Buckland Monachorum in Devon, England.

When Elisha was 19 years old, in 1634, he began studying at Exeter College, Oxford, which is part of the famous Oxford University. In the same year, he also studied law at a place called Lincoln's Inn.

His Time in Parliament

Elisha Crymes was a Member of Parliament, often called an MP. An MP is a person chosen by people to represent them in Parliament, where laws are made and important decisions for the country are discussed.

  • First Time as MP: In August 1646, Elisha was elected as an MP for the town of Tavistock. He joined a group called the Long Parliament. However, in 1648, he was removed from Parliament during an event known as Pride's Purge. This was a time when some members were forced out.
  • Second Time as MP: In 1659, Elisha was elected again. This time, he became an MP for Bere Alston in a group called the Third Protectorate Parliament.
  • Third Time as MP: In April 1660, he was elected for Tavistock once more, joining the Convention Parliament. But his election was soon cancelled on May 3rd of that year.
  • Fourth Time as MP: In 1661, he was elected as an MP for Bere Alston again, to be part of the Cavalier Parliament. However, his election was cancelled again on May 16th.

Later Life

Elisha Crymes lived to be about 75 years old. He passed away in March 1690 and was buried in his hometown of Buckland Monachorum on March 17, 1690.
